Current Standings

Breweries attending the 2012 Iowa State Fair

Please look below for a list of the 18 breweries that will be attending the Iowa State Fair this year. I encourage you to visit their facebook and twitter pages to thank them for attending. Or better yet, visit them in person and shake their hand. We are looking forward to making this year bigger and better than last year.

Monday - The first breweries to announce are Millstream Brewing Company (Amanas), Peace Tree Brewing Company (Knoxville), and Court Avenue Restaurant & Brewing Company (Des Moines). Please visit their facebook and twitter pages to let them know how excited you are that they will be attending this year.
Tuesday - Day two sees three more returning breweries that over 90% of you picked in our Pick 17 contest. Madhouse Brewing Company (Newton), Olde Main Brewing Company (Ames), and Raccoon River Brewing Company (Des Moines). Be sure to let them know how excited you are that they are returning this year. Stay tuned for Day 3 as we reveal a brewery that is attending for the first time.
Wednesday - Round three has two returning breweries, and one "new to the fair" brewery. Backpocket Brewing (Coralville) is set to open it'd doors in a few weeks and will again attend the Iowa State Fair. Granite City, (Clive, Davenport, Cedar Rapids) will also be making a second appearance. Great River Brewery (Davenport) is excited to attend for the first time this year as well. Look for them all three to be a big hit. Tomorrow we announce our final two returning breweries, and two new breweries.
Thursday - This is where it starts to get interesting. Today we welcome two returning breweries, Sutliff Cider Company (Lisbon), and Lost Duck Brewing Company (Fort Madison). We also welcome two new breweries from central Iowa. Exile Brewing Company (Des Moines) and Number 7 Brewing Company (Ankeny) to the lineup. We no longer have any perfect predictions for the Pick17 contest, however we do have two ladies that have only missed one so far. See the current standings above.
Friday - This is the final day of announcements. 4 of the 5 breweries announced today will be at the Iowa State Fair for the first time. Okoboji Brewing (Spirit Lake), Keg Creek Brewing (Glenwood), Twisted Vine Brewing (Saint Charles), and CIB Brewery (Carson) are all making first time appearances. Angry Cedar Brewing (Waverly) planned on coming last year but had a cooler failure and lost his batch. He hopes to make a return this year in style for his second attempt at his first appearance.

Pick 17 contest

We have been working on ideas to announce the 17 breweries that will be attending the 2012 Iowa State Fair. What we came up with is the "Pick 17" contest. You simply pick 17 of the 41 breweries in Iowa. The person with the most correct, wins. If there is a tie we will decide the winner based on your guess of how many facebook fans we will have at 8AM on Monday the 14th. The winner will receive 2 gate admission tickets to the 2012 Iowa State Fair, 1 six-pack drink ticket, 2 t-shirts, and 2 koozies. 2nd and 3rd will get 1 t-shirt and 1 koozie. 4th - 10th will receive 1 koozie. Remember to select only 17. If you select more than 17 your entry will be disqualified. NOTE: IF YOU ARE ASSOCIATED WITH ONE OF THE BREWERIES ATTENDING YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER AS YOU ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER. CONTEST ENDS MAY 14TH AT 8AM CST. ONE ENTRY PER EMAIL ADDRESS.

Volunteer signup opens on Tuesday, May 1st

We will be opening up volunteer signup on Tuesday morning, May 1st. We will be completing the signup online this year. You will only be able to signup one person at a time. If another person is signing up with the same email for the same shift (example husband and wife shares the same email address), please do not fill out the first email input box. Instead, check the box that you do not have an email and enter your email in the input box below. If you both try to enter your email in the top box it will deny you, becasue it thinks the same person is signing up for the same shift twice. Please understand if the rush is too big when the signup opens up, it may overfill. We will fill them on a first come, first served basis. We are pleased to announce that the Iowa Craft Beer Tent will be entirely all Iowa beer this year. We will have 10 returning breweries and 7 new breweries on hand this year. Stay tuned as we work on a fun way to announce the attendees.

Get a friend to try an Iowa craft beer - Photo Contest

The Iowa Craft Beer Tent will be conducting a "Convert a friend" contest from March 2nd - 11th with voting to follow. We all know someone, for whatever reason, who has not yet tried a beer brewed in the great state of Iowa. Craft beer fans like you, will invite a friend who has never drank an Iowa craft beer, to try one for the first time! Posting a photo on our facebook or twitter page will place you in the contest to win free beer. Buy a 6-pack or growler and invite them over for a beer, or meet them at one of the many bars or restaurants that serve Iowa craft beer. So, do you know who you are going to call and invite out for a beer?

Stout Social at Court Avenue Restaurant & Brewing Company

Court Avenue Restaurant & Brewing Company, will host Stout Social on Monday, February 20th, 2012 from 6-9 pm. Stout Social will feature a collaboration of Iowa breweries offering guests samples of their respected Stouts. Currently four breweries plan to be in attendance, Court Avenue Restaurant & Brewing Company, Peace Tree Brewing Company, Raccoon River Brewing Company, and Rock Bottom Brewing. We have created a single page that gives you, the fan, an easy way to join each breweries social media pages. We have added six breweries to our list of Iowa breweries bringing the total count to 33. Head over to our breweries page for more info on Briar Creek Brewery, Twisted Vine Brewery, Exile Brewing Company, Okoboji Brewing Company, Number 7 Brewing Company, and CIB Brewery. A few have been around for awhile, and a few have yet to open. Interest in Craft Beer in Iowa is at an all time high right now.

Chocolate and Iowa Craft Beer together for FREE Breakfast!

Chocolate and Iowa Craft Beer come together for a FREE breakfast on Friday, Jan. 27. Well-known radio personality's from WHO, Van & Bonnie host their annual FREE Chocolate Breakfast at the Hy-Vee Conference Center at 60th & Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. And this year, two Iowa Craft Breweries will bring their chocolate brews for all to enjoy. Two of Iowa's oldest and biggest breweries, Olde Main Brewing Co. and Millstream Brewing will be joining the event for the first time. "We're so happy to join the Chocolate Breakfast with Van and Bonnie this year. We really just want to get the word out there and our message is a simple one: Chocolate beer... It's not just for breakfast anymore!" Martin Fox of Olde Main Brewing Co.

Olde Main Brewing Co. will supply the event with their Reindeer Fuel, which is a Chocolate Porter. The best way to describe this delicious beer in one word is Chocoliciousness. Reindeer Fuel is brewed with a healthy dose of chocolate malt, and goes down rich and smooth. Copious amounts of semi-sweet Bavarian chocolate are then tempered and added to this brew, infusing it with an even more intense chocolate aroma and flavor – perfect for dessert or breakfast, or lunch, or even a snack. Teresa Albert, owner of Millstream Brewing is really excited about uniting chocolate with Millstream beer. Albert said, "Believe it or not, but dark beer and chocolate are a natural pairing." Millstream will be offering their Chocolate Oatmeal Stout at the Chocolate Breakfast.

Small and large Iowa breweries alike have been at the forefront of many major events in the past year including the Iowa State Fair through the Iowa Craft Beer Tent, Inc. Steve Linn has been leading the effort and thinks the Chocolate Breakfast is a great opportunity to showcase another way beer can be appreciated. "We are looking forward to showcasing two of Iowa's oldest and biggest breweries. I think the attendees will be pleasantly surprised, and it may be the one item they remember the most. It isn't often that you have beer for breakfast."

I don't know about you, but we were getting tired of looking at the old webpage. We decided to launch the website as it is now, and continue to add features slowly rather than wait for the perfect final product. The breweries section gives you an easy way to stay connected to your favorite breweries with convenient links to each of their social media pages. Our goal is to make the site very user friendly and interactive with you, the fan of Iowa craft beer.
